Plastic SurgeryRhinoplastySurgery is performed typically in one and a half to two and a half hours depending on complexity. Local anesthesia in combination with IV sedation or general anesthesia can be used according to patient needs. Incisions are made on the inside of the nose or underside and sometimes both areas depending on the patient’s unique needs. Any exterior incisions are kept to a minimum and placed in areas easily hidden. Scars will be red and pigmented for one to two months and gradually fade to minimal within four to six months. After surgery, a splint will be placed on the nose and possibly nasal packing in each nostril. The treated area will be temporarily swollen, bruised and possibly distorted in the first week. Mild discomfort may occur and pain medication will be prescribed as needed.

Swelling and bruising will begin to subside after 1 week although some may remain for three to six months. Patients can resume light exercise within two to three weeks and vigorous exercise after four months. Patients typically can go back to work and resume social activities in as little as seven days of surgery.
