Rhytidectomy - or Face LiftSurgery is performed typically in three to four hours as an outpatient. A general anesthesia or intravenous sedation is used. An incision is typically located in the temple hair and the folds in front and behind the ear and usually held with sutures. The scars are hidden in the temple hair, the folds in front of the ear, and behind the ear. At times, a shorter incision limited to just in front of the ear can be used (minimal incision facelift) and will help decrease recovery time. Expect treated areas to feel swollen, bruised and possibly distorted. Bandages or a compression garment will be worn to control swelling, provide support and aid in healing. Doctor visits will begin the first postoperative day. The sutures will be removed five to seven days after surgery and topical gels and continued used of iced wash clothes are recommended. Healing occurs over four to six weeks.
